November helps me remember.
This year I’m fighting the urge to move into Christmas early. I vowed to enjoy more moments of the Christmas feeling this year. Not that I don’t feel it usually; I just want more of it – for a longer period of time! I want it all; the movies, the music, the lights, the firelight and the family. So, in order to do that; I need Thanksgiving to move over a bit. Excuse me Thanksgiving, I love you too with all your warmth and smells and golden light. But, could you just move over so Christmas can arrive a bit earlier and stay longer? Woah, wait a minute. As much as I would LOVE to have more time for Christmas, I can’t forsake you, Thanksgiving. I need to find you. I need to make space for you.
I need to gather and give thanks.
This is where I hold on hard to celebrating November. I honor you. Thank you, November, for reminding me to not ask for things we do not have but to give thanks for all we have and are. November helps me remember.
Slowly you will see Christmas peeking in over here but November will stand strong to get its proper honor.
The Thank You Game:
Several years ago on Thanksgiving Day we decided to honor the day we would say “Thank you” after everything we said. “Do we have any more coffee, thank you?“ “Did you feed the dogs, thank you”. “Did someone open the cranberries, thank you” “i’m so full, thank you”. We made it a game so you couldn’t forget. We did it from the morning until we all went to bed on Thanksgiving. “Goodnight, thank you.” We all laughed so hard; good times! So, don’t let Thanksgiving get pushed around by Christmas. Stay in the moment and try playing the Thank You Game and let me know how it went… Thank you 🙂
